This collection is inspired by graffiti and street art. I landed on this theme as I was fascinated by the application of spray paint onto exposed brickwork and the forms that this process created. I was also interested in how graffiti artists develop creative and expressive lettering to use in their tags. For this collection, I wanted to create pieces that draw from the shapes found in graffiti and capture the energy and fluidity of the art form.

The six pieces in this collection were created by analysing works of graffiti from around Dublin and identifying what lines and shapes were most indicative of the style found in the city. Those forms were then recreated in brass or silver and joined together to construct a three-dimensional ring form. Spray paint was then applied selectively to allow areas of bare metal to shine through.

The title ‘Fat Cap’ is in reference to a type of spray paint nozzle used to ‘fill in’ and create large areas of colour.
