‘Natural Matter’ is an interior textile collection, based on the concept of the world coming full circle with itself in the future, resulting in the built environment of humans and their lives being designed to blend into the natural landscape. The design direction is informed by observations of how modern science-fiction films like 'Dune' and 'Arrival' depict the future. These depictions often consist of humans and objects blending into their natural landscapes, emulating features of rock, mineral, wood and organic matter.
My aim was to achieve a futuristic and otherworldly aesthetic by taking inspiration from mineral and organic matter alongside minimal architecture. Using weave and laser cut as my main techniques, I wanted to combine elements that reflect the natural colour and textures of Earth’s oldest materials alongside technical surfaces, structures and patterns that appear organised and futuristic.
