As an interaction designer, I am driven by a desire to explore social issues and create constructive dialogues around them.

In the modern world, our access to opinions and content has been put on steroids, especially after the pandemic. We lost ourselves in content and absorbed what we were shown along with the judgements attached. Our world became polarised and we’ve been pushed into bubbles online and in person, only engaging with people of a similar mindset.

By taking an experimental design approach I have created a library of workshops, playful interventions and challenges that can be deployed by any member of an organisation such as a college or a company to challenge these behaviours.

The 'Redefining Bias Project' focuses on creating fun experiences that interrupt automatic thought processes by encouraging self-reflection. Aimed at third level students, the library gives a feeling of direction to discussions around bias, rather than the despondency that people often have.

The programme gets young people to reflect on their judgements and question who, and what, they should be trusting.

Through playful workshops and interactions students are able to foster a connection with biases that they have and start to reflect on these

In giving space to experimenting throughout my process, I was able to explore the way people created connections to and about bias which gave me a wealth of resources which I could use to form a library

By contacting the Student Union in NCAD I was able to gauge how receptive the organisations would be to the project and ideas behind it

I was able to create a website where these resources would be available to organisations such as student unions, schools and companies. These companies would be able to download the resources to adapt and use to start the conversation around bias for themselves
