"Let me try to unpick the maternal ideal to discover the threads that weave it together" – Rozsika Parker.
This work uses baby feeding discourse and culture as a lens through which to view our societal attitudes towards and expectations of mothers. What began as research into breastfeeding advocacy campaigns and how they could become more inclusive and feminist in their messaging, evolved into a much deep exploration of issues of motherhood as a whole. The finished pieces chart the development of this research in a printed book, and through pieces of protest textiles. They are tools in our fight for matricentric feminist rights.
