How are we connected through the domestic kitchen space? The kitchen can act as a unique space to nurture both human and inanimate connections.

Looking at how one's personal experience of food and the kitchen can be visualised, this project sets out to explore this theme through the lens of the physical, the emotional, and the sensory. In doing so, it acts to further establish how the kitchen can be used to convey one's history, identity, and preserve a legacy.

'The kitchen is not a room' is a poetry book that expands out into a tablecloth, exploring the gestural nature of cooking and the use of physical space. Taking inspiration from my mother’s biryani, the choreographed movements that contribute in the making of this perfected meal is translated onto an embroidered tablecloth. Dotted like garnish lies a collaged poem about the feelings evoked in this space. 'Attached' is a publication that examines a personal collection of kitchen objects and how these objects act as ‘memory-keepers’ or reminders of the fond or melancholy past. 'The Tiffin' is a kit with sensory aids that acts as a sensory recipe to make a biryani reminiscent of my mothers.
