Abstraction is freedom from the representational qualities in art that departs from visual reality. This collection aims to use shape, colour and gestural marks to achieve this abstract effect, representing freedom from stereotypical gender qualities. It is a celebration of self-expression, empowering femininity and the non-typical in the wake of rising hate crimes against the queer community since the pandemic.

It is a gender-neutral fashion-print collection using heavyweight cottons, reflecting an artist's canvas, while silks and viscose represent fluidity and movement. Mark-making through embroidery creates bright, one-off pieces, with collage acting as a metaphor for tearing apart perceptions. Colour innovation, experimenting through layering, depth of shade and saturation were key to my work, creating joyful and unique colour combinations that excite; allowing the vibrancy of your character to shine through what you wear.
