'Subliminal' explores the unconscious – an integral part of the human psyche – and the lack of understanding of the ways in which it operates. Visualising something that is so intangible in a physical form is incredibly difficult, so I chose to examine the potentials of unconscious processes in the brain, such as pareidolia.

Pareidolia is understood as an unconscious tendency, where previously understood forms are projected onto matter; like seeing faces in inanimate objects or in the clouds.

Subliminal combines both translucent and reflective materials with loosely sculpted aspects of facial forms. The relationships between the physical and reflected elements depict the possibilities of capturing the intangibility of the unconscious. Just as a mirrored image exists outside of physical space, so too does the unconscious exist outside of awareness and understanding.
