“Inga träd växer till himmelen.”
No trees grow to the sky (Nothing lasts forever)

The concept for this project is based around the ecological issues Ireland is facing with deforestation and the urbanisation of Irish landscapes.

I have created a character based on the Vikings; I want to contemporise the notion of the warrior’s attire and create a costume to represent a female contemporary warrior. The 'warrior' is still an active force, but with new battles to wage. Issues pertaining to ecology, climate change, globalism and urbanisation all look back to past practices to regain natural balance. I am focusing on using linen, one of the natural fabrics created by the Vikings. From growing up in Wexford, my character 'Eik' is an externalisation of my feelings towards the expansion of urbanisation into rural areas. Eik, meaning 'tree' in Norse, was chosen to represent the strong rooted connection I have to nature even after moving to Dublin.
