‘Wilder’ is a collection of woven fabrics dyed using local plants such as hawthorn, dandelion and weld, which are chosen to highlight their value for biodiversity as well as colour.

I work sustainably where possible using solar dye methods and non toxic mordants. Beetling, a little used technique, is applied to some samples achieving a subtle sheen.

‘Wilder’ is a plea for a greater compassion for wild areas and ecosystems such as hedgerows and meadows which are daily being removed across our land, and invites the viewer to act now by planting more of them in our gardens and cities as well as rural areas.

Darker colours and stitches such as distorted twill, reflect feelings of despair for a potentially bleak future without the species we enjoy today, while brighter more joyful colours symbolise a sense of optimism that we can reverse the current crisis if we act together, now.
