In my practice, I have been drawn to the possibility of reusing single-use plastics to help combat the negative impacts they are having on climate change. My research and investigation into the effects this material is having on the ecosystem left me frustrated and determined to try to repurpose this material for the better. My goal is to offer plastic materials a new purpose by subtracting the term 'single-use'.
It is my aim to change the look, content and function of this material, creating sculptural and garment-like pieces.
Incorporating the body as my main objective for the display of these pieces, I have integrated my love for the extravagance that is haute couture.
Responding to the question of what it means for a garment to hold such a title of high-end opulence, I ask whether it is possible to change this narrative today, by offering new ideas for incorporating materials that are sustainably made or consciously repurposed. The possibilities are endless, which is what my work wishes to convey.
