'HEADSPACE' discusses the issues young people face in Ireland, pre- and post pandemic. Through interviews with six young creatives, all from underrepresented or marginalised groups in Ireland, to paintings interpreting these interviews that showcase these individuals in their own 'headspace', my project aims to create discussion about representation in Ireland. It focuses on how the pandemic impacted young adults, what young people feel needs to change in Ireland, and what young people want for their future in Ireland.
"I try to showcase how varied and interesting everyday life can be, how we all as humans can have such different lives, yet we are all linked through common experiences and interests. I capture ‘snapshots’ of life that demonstrate how you can exaggerate or parody certain parts to create a relatable, thought-provoking experience. I also focus on representation, I want individuals to feel seen and heard in my work."
Listening to people, telling their stories, is an integral component of my work and in the development of my visual language. I transmit stories and experiences that reflect the well-being and therapeutic experience embedded in my work, that enables audience participation and interaction.
