This work is inspired by the everyday repetitive routines and activities of my domestic life which were brought into sharp focus during the recent lockdowns. I became aware of the changing emotions occurring within this space, emotions fuelled by the juggling of various aspects of life, while trying to keep balance and harmony for myself and others.

My use of domestic materials, textile techniques and colour create a narrative surrounding the spectrum of emotions within this space. I have chosen to work with both digital and hand stitch to create and convey a sense of tension in my work. Red is a colour that lies at both ends of the spectrum with regards to emotion and is used here as a metaphor to signify this, while, hand stitch adds to the narrative of 'mend and make do', domesticity and the detailed embellishment that represents the treasured moments in between.
