'Dormant' – temporarily inactive.
A word that started acts of preservation.
This series of paintings sets out to preserve ordinary but powerful moments in my studio space. After the involuntary hermetisation forced on us by lockdowns over the last two years, the once dormant studio became a hub of therapeutic and creative importance for me. These paintings are acts of preservation, capturing moments of beauty before the regular rhythms of work inevitably takes them away.
The paintings record my desire to create a space of heightened imagination. Using photography, mark-making, collage and obscuring of imagery and other techniques, my intention is to heighten the sense of space and to intrigue the viewer, inviting them to explore ambiguous and otherworldly endeavours. The works invite the viewer to access the feelings of awe I encounter within the studio space.
